A Day with Type 1 Diabetes

Here's what a day with type 1 diabetes looks like.

Well a day with Courtney's type 1 diabetes.

warning: a little blood and needles are below, if that makes your stomach do the moon walk then don't proceed. But it's really not too bad. It's pretty much nothing, I just don't want you to start scrolling then "OMG Courtney why did you take a picture of that!" I think it just makes us closer, like blood sisters/brothers?

It was a Tuesday.......

*****************************************************

7 am: Good morning! The first thing I do ever morning right when I wake up is check my blood sugar and take 2 shots. The first shot's job is to provide my body with "background" insulin that lasts all day long. I only take this once a day. The other shot is one that I take everytime I eat during the day (it's breakfast time now) and I'll take it randomly during the day if my blood sugars high.

This is my bff. She goes with me everywhere. She contains everything I could possibly need during the day to manage Mr. Diabetes (oh yeah, I've decided my diabetes is of the male sex).

These are my insulin pens/shots. They literally look just like pens you would write with.

This is what a normal breakfast looks like for me. For all my meals during the day, I try to stay around only 30grams of carbohydrates (unless it's a special meal where I indulge). This meal is right at 30g carbs.
100% whole wheat english muffin, low fat cream cheese and this amazing low carb yogurt from Kroger (the yogurt is only 60 calories and has 4grams of carbs and taste delicious. Buy it).

11am: Lunch time. I check my blood sugar and then inject some insulin before I eat.

Blood sugar testing supplies and blood sugar log book.

What my typical lunch looks like. This was probably around 35-40g carbs.
Turkey sandwich with cheese and 100% whole wheat round thingy with crab chips (hell yeah). I also had celery sticks with pb.

1pm: I checked my blood sugar again just to make sure that I'm not too high from lunch.

This thing is what I prick my finger with to draw blood to check my sugar levels. The piece of metal is really small. A cap's on it when you use it.

2pm: I'm hungry and want a snack. I shoot up some insulin and grab some trial mix

This is when you and I start becoming closer friends.....

3:30pm: I'm at school getting ready to go into a session with a client. For some reason this time of the day between 3-6pm is really rough on my blood sugars, I almost always start to have low blood sugar. So I double check my sugars again just to make sure I don't need a snack.

5:30pm: Back home. and starving. I feel a little low and check to see where my blood sugars at.

This is how you know it's almost time for dinner around our house.

6pm: Dinner time. I take another shot of insulin......by this time of the day I am completely tired  of and irritated of giving myself shots.

This is what the needles look like. Very tiny. Pretty painless. I often can't feel them at all.

Dinner looks kinda small and pathetic. It was a really big plate....
Bang bang chicken, salad and I also ate a yogurt. I think it was around 25-30g carbs.

7:30pm: Check my blood sugar again to make sure alls good under the hood after dinner.

8:30pm: I have a headache. I check my blood sugar to see if I can blame my headache on it.

If you were my little finger.....

9pm: Dance Moms is on and I'm hungry. I want a snack. So I take my last shot for the day before eating graham crackers with pb.

Peanut butter makes my heart go boom boom boom.

11pm: Off to bed. Usually, I check my blood sugar once more before going to sleep but I didn't tonight because I felt pretty comfortable with what I thought it probably was.

Well there it is!

A pretty normal day with my type 1.

Fun and educational right?

The UPS man came today. This resulted in me throwing up in my mouth a little.

Lalalalalalalalalaaaaaa!!!

The ottoman I order a month ago (Really target? You make a girl work for it (work for it=checking order status obsessively )) finally arrived. and I love it. I was so excited for this stupid thing that I got butterflies in my stomach when I saw the UPS man out front. and now I can't stop giving it love looks from across the room. Problems much Courtney? Um duh.

When I ordered it, I was a little worried that it wouldn't be large enough but the size is on point.

Grey chevron goodness.

A little Real Housewives OC is good to mush up your mind after a long week.

Eventually, I hope it kinda but not really looks like this. I think rustic burlap pillows mixed with bright patterned pillows, oh yeah.

Can you believe I blogged about something that isn't diabetes related?

Buuut you're not faaaat......?

I saw this video on this blog (my favorite diabetes blog) and find it hilarious. It only took about a week or two after I was diagnosed to start hearing a couple of these things.

People are funny.

What face do you make when little demon people are flying around?

I was messing around with my webcams graphics and accidentally took this picture.

Accidentally?

Yeah I was freaking out because I couldn't get those little people to go away and accidentally hit the picture button.

If you know me well, then you should be able to see the pure terror and confusion in my eyes.
